Girl Child: Burden for poor ?

India is a country where poverty rate is around  37.2%. This poverty with increasing population as a coefficient is the root cause of many other curses on the nation.

One who is poor and is hardly making a living feels and fears that having a girl child will be a tremor to his budged.
They thinks that girls make more expanses on dress, food and in marriage. In contrasts, they also get tempted to get a boy who will bring in money as dowry and will work to supplement the income.

Now what they usually forget is that girl's expanses on dress, food are similar to that of boys.Girls from poor families don't make demands of a princess, in fact girls in comparison to boys are more sensitive to their family's economic condition and they for their family crush down their dreams more easily than a boy do.
Girls if allowed can also work and earn money.

Being illiterate they almost don't know that dowry is illegal, so if they have a girl then they will get rigid legal support if money is demanded in marriage. This is proved by many cases even from slum where people got support and compensation from law and the money demanding party went behind the bars. However it will not happen itself , first step is always needed to be made by victim, only then law can do the miracle!

So girl's being economic burden is a prejudice.Hence,if girls are still a burden for poor then boys should be considered equal burden.
